I'm not injured, why should I subscribe?

There are two kinds of people who train Jiu Jitsu. Those who ARE injured and those who will BE injured. There’s no avoiding it.

It’s every sports physio’s ultimate dream that we all get to practice our favorite activity without any restrictions or discomfort. However, if you’re trying to be the best version of yourself on the mats, then you are likely to find the limits of your physical ability.

  • The NO PAIN phase: Your injury is in your rear-view mirror, but we all know that the number one indicator for injury is PREVIOUS INJURY. So to bulletproof yourself against being hurt or limited, this phase is essential.

Who is the BJJ Physio?

Dr. Carlos J Berio, THE BJJ Physio, has been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 2006. But he has been working with the highest level movers across all “ground reaction force” sports for more than 20 years.

As a licensed physical therapist and certified strength and conditioning expert, Carlos combines his deep understanding of the BJJ game and in-depth insights into sports medicine healing optimization and return to play programming. Building versatile and bulletproof BJJ players who can effectively diagnose and treat themselves (with our system) is the overall goal of the BJJ Physio as a brand.

We will also be certifying other sports PTs across the US and around the world who routinely work with BJJ enthusiasts. Our network will be the most robust resource for pain education, self-treatment, and to connect you to the provider you need (if necessary) so that you can move better, feel great, and roll forever.

What is BJJ Physio?

We are a web based SELF DIAGNOSIS and SELF TREATMENT platform designed to find the best programming fit for the specific issue that is preventing YOU from training as much and as hard as you’d like.

All programming is a result of years of experience by the BJJ Physio, Dr. Carlos J Berio, training hard on the mats and spending decades honing the drills and techniques that every BJJ player should have in their toolbox to stay on the mats.

While we all might not be Gordon Ryan or Marcelo Garcia, the reason you know their names is because they’ve made BJJ, as well as the physical conditioning to train and/or compete in BJJ a priority.

Why is injury prevention important?

Everything we do in BJJ, whether you’re a high-level competitor or an enthusiast, is to prevent a bad case scenario from becoming worse.

If you’re in a competitive match, you need to rely on your body to do what is needed at a moment’s notice. In this case, it’s about points, wins and losses.

On the street, the costs of being ill-prepared to defend yourself could be a lot higher.

In both of these scenarios and all of those in between, the right kind of strength, mobility and skills programming is what saves your tail! 

As the old saying goes, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Injury prevention programming and phasing is how we keep everyone moving their best no matter which situation you will face.
